“Claire, listen—this is crazy. My mother was angry sometimes, but this—”

“You thought I’d break.”
Ethan opened his mouth to respond.
But Daniel spoke again.
“There is one more document Margaret asked me to reveal… only if Ethan appeared with Ms. Clarke.”
Vanessa’s head snapped toward him.
“What document?”
Daniel slid another envelope onto the table.
Inside was a paternity test.
Vanessa’s face went white.

“What is this?”

“Margaret had concerns about the timeline of the pregnancy.”
Vanessa stood suddenly.
“That’s private!”
