I Proposed To My Boyfriend Twice… He Still Wasn’t Sure, So I I FINALLY WALKED AWAY FOR GOOD

We planned it out like a mini heist. Dinner first, just the two of us at a nice restaurant nearby. Then, “spontaneously,” I’d suggest a walk through the botanical garden, like we were just going to enjoy the plants and the cool evening air. Meanwhile, our friends would be there early, setting everything up.

I rehearsed my speech in my head for days. I even stood in front of the bathroom mirror once, holding a hairbrush like a microphone, whispering the words I wanted to say.

I love you. I don’t want to pressure you, but I want us to move forward. I want us to build something permanent.

I kept picturing his face softening, his eyes getting shiny, him finally saying, “Yes. I’m ready now.”

The night of the proposal, my nerves were on fire. At dinner, I tried to act normal, but I was hyper-aware of everything—the way his hand brushed mine across the table, the little jokes we shared, the way he smiled at me when I mispronounced the fancy dish names on the menu. He seemed happy, relaxed. There was no tension, no obvious sign that anything was wrong.

“After this, want to go for a walk?” I asked casually, swirling my wine.

“Sure,” he said. “That sounds nice.”

My heart jumped.

We finished dinner, paid, and stepped out into the slightly chilly night. The garden was only a short drive away. As we walked in, I tried to keep my breathing steady, pretending like I wasn’t about to ask him again to spend his life with me.

We wandered through the paths, the air filled with the scent of flowers and damp earth. The lights were soft and golden, illuminating the leaves in a way that made the whole place feel otherworldly.

As we got closer to the fountain, I could see the glow of candles. My chest tightened.

The fountain area looked exactly how I’d pictured it. Roses, candles lining the path, the water reflecting light like tiny stars. Our friends had disappeared somewhere into the shadows, giving us privacy but still close enough to witness the moment.

Adrien’s eyes widened.

“What is all this?” he asked.

I took his hand.

“This,” I said, my voice trembling slightly, “is me doing this properly.”
