The numbers are chilling: the median survival time after diagnosis does not exceed twelve months. Only about 20% of patients can hope for surgical intervention combined with medical treatments, which improves their outlook.
The five-year survival rate remains at 5–10%, a figure that has barely changed since the 1970s according to U.S. data. Research and prevention therefore remain our best tools to change the situation.
